The Duty selector as seen before setting up If you're interested in driving activities only, you may skip this part. However, for Explore Mode it's essential. In Beta 3.17, you will find a new side menu called Duty. This allows you to set a route for networks without traffic control, like with the trams in Hageningen. With that system, the vehicle communicates with the various points along the line which change the tracks to guide the vehicle to the correct direction. Set up The Duty selector as seen after setting up In contrast to previous networks you're probably used to, the CVL doesn't work here (except for a small number of points). In order to setup the route for a line, you have to do the following: Click Service and then using the keypad, enter the 3-digit train number, which can be whatever you like but must start with each line's corresponding digit (see here). Then click Enter Click on Line and using the on-screen keypad, type the number of the line you want to drive, e.g. 14, and then click on Enter Click on Route to pick the route of the line you want to drive. Now use the ▲ and ▼ keys to find the desired route. After that you can click Enter The Duty Selector is now set up and it should look like in the picture on the right. Aside from when you are in the small number of points mentioned before which we cover later on this tutorial, you are now good to go. Signals In Hageningen and the surface section of the Essim tram network you will find three different kind of signals: Route signals, Point signals and Traffic lights. In the Essim tramtunnel you will encounter light signals which are explained on the ARI page. Route Signals These are the signals found on that small number of points. Those can be controlled manually via the CVL (using the RWI/RWO codes). When running under the Duty Selector, most of them are being activated automatically when you are near them while others require you press the departure button; by default assigned to Tab Description Signal Instruction Horizontal Line Stop: Route not set or clear. Vertical/Diagonal Line Proceed: route has been locked. Line points to the direction of the route. A number can also be shown to showto which track the route goes. In applicable stops, the sign can also show the target platform number. Point signals Point signals, in contrast to Route Signals, show you the state/direction of a point. It doesn't include any protection nor does it block other trains from coming, for example, towards you in a collision path using the same track :) The signals cannot be manually controlled though the CVL. If for some reason the signal you want to pass is not clear, you can manually change the point using the command in the CVL (see CVL Tutorial) and then proceed at a slow speed. WSO Description Signal Instruction Off Stop: direction not set; either no valid code transmitted or previous tram has not cleared the track yet. Arrow with the direction you're heading Proceed if arrow points in correct direction. Traddic lights At road intersections you can encounter traffic lights. If the tram runs on the street you have to obey the regular red/yellow/green traffic lights. When there is a dedicated tram lane the tram uses the red/yellow/white public transit lights. Traffic lights work automatically, although you might need to wait shortly until the end of the current cycle before your light clears. Aspect Instruction Red Stop Yellow Stop, unless you are so close you cannot stop in time anymore. Green (traffic light) Proceed White (transit light) Proceed Blinking white (transit light) Proceed, but beware of other traffic Important points Line 11 as well as parts of lines 12 and 13, and some points near Hageningen Centraal use ZUB train protection with the respective signals Even though there's no official speed limit, you should drive slowly at around 30 km/h (even slower (15 km/h) in tight curves and switches) and carefully as other trams might show up in a junction which you cannot see in the CVL (like you're used to with other networks) In double-length stops, stop at the end of the platform and not in the middle, as that extra space is use to accomodate a second tram in shared sections

Blauw ATS-bord (Verboden om te passeren) Geel ATS-bord (Toegestaan om te passeren) De ATB-activatorlus Standard driving Beside the ATB (read that page for information about the ATB) you can drive now. To drive forward first be sure the train is in PZ throttle (MG2,SG2 and RSG2) or in Rij throttle (RSG3 and SG3). You can change that with the Q, and W keys. Then you can press the to accelerate or the for the brakes. You can see your speed and the maximum speed in the cab. Braking has a maximum of 4.00 for the MG2,SG2 and RSG2 and a maximum of 0.75 for the RSG3 and SG3 to keep the passengers comfortable. For throttle there is no maximum, but the RSG3 and SG3 can accelerate fast so hold the throttle on 0.75 for the most comfortable ride. >< Using the emergebcy brakes In case of an emergency the trains have an emergency brake. They can be used to stop the train in a short range but when used it causes flat wheels which make a lot of noise. The emergency brakes can be different depending on the train type: MG2 The MG2 don't have emergency brakes, the maximum they can brake is -7.00. SG2 and RSG2 The SG2 and RSG2 can brake with a maximum of -8.00, but even though it brakes extremely fast, it isn't an emergency brake. For that you have to activate the track brakes. The track brakes are automatically on when the pantograph is up, but on the third rail you have to activate them with the emergency button ( Ctrl+L). Once you hear a high pitched noise, use the key to activate the emergency brake. / MG2/1 SG2/1 RSG3 end SG3 The MG2/1, SG2/1, RSG3 and SG3 all have the same system for their emergency brakes. To activate the emergency brakes, set the brakes of the train to -2.00. You can activate the emergency brakes by pressing the key. / op at a stationStop at a station When on duty, you always have to stop at every station so reaching your maximum ATB speed is not necessary and sometimes unreachable. Before reaching the platform slow down until a your speed is between 40 and 50 km/h; otherwise, you cannot brake hard enough to stop at the platform. Also try to stop the train next to the numbered sign which contains the number of carriages you have. The blue signs are for MG2, SG2, RSG2, MG2/1 and SG2/1 carriages while the white signs are for RSG3 and SG3 carriages. When stopped at the platform, you can choose to unlock or open the doors. Be sure to open them on the proper side. After some time (8 seconds for small stations and 12 for the bigger stations) you can close the doors and leave the station. Blue number sign White number sign ZUB station sign Passing a station When off duty, you have to pass some stations without stopping. Keep in mind to slow down before passing a station. Decouple/Couple Using the pantograaf For some lines, trains receive power from an overhead wire. Before the train can receive the electricity from the overhead wire, you have to rise the pantograph with Ctrl+P. If you drive from the overhead wire to the third rail you have to press Shift+P. to lower the pantograph. You have to raise and lower the pantograph between the signs below: Allowed to rise pantograph Rised pantograph before this sign Allowed to lower pantograph Lowered pantograph before this sign Pass a level crossing In the simulator there are two kinds of level crossings, for the differences see AHOB. Passing them is easy, but there are some things to remember. The AHOB, as used on the RET metro parts, uses ATS lights which give you permission to pass: blue means don't pass and yellow means you can pass safely. The ATS light will turn yellow when the barriers are unlocked to go down. When a crossing is placed behind a station you have to activate the crossing with the activator loop, drive slowly over the loop, and wait until the yellow ATS light turns on. The Randstadrail uses other AHOB barriers, they work with the CVL paths. When a path is created over a crossing, the crossing will close. However, when you are at a station, the crossing won't close and the ZUB sign will stay red. To pass, press TAB. Now the crossing will close and the ZUB sign will turn green, and you can pass safely. Blue ATS sign (Forbidden to pass) Yellow ATS sign (Allowed to pass) The ATB activator loop
