Om de hoofdlijn te ontlasten is in de jaren 1970 dit voorstedelijke traject aangelegd tussen Reidham, Brunswijk en Cruxel. Station Deilpoort was daarbij één van de nieuw geopende stations. Buiten de spitsuren blijven de reizigersaantallen voor dit station nog altijd aan de lage kant. Het ouderwetse, dorpse en wellicht conservatieve karakter van de streekstad Brunswijk blijft nog altijd redelijk in stand ondanks de nabijheid van twee veel grotere en levendige steden.
